Darrell A. Jackson grew up in New Brunswick, New Jersey and neighboring Somerset, New Jersey. As a young boy and on into his teen years, it was common for parents to required that children attend Sunday school and Darrell and his older brother did so every Sunday. Thus began Darrell’s connection to and affection for the God’s church, where he heard The Word and developed deep within his spirit a love for God’s values and music.
Over the years, Dr. Jackson has sung in his church choir both as a young man and to the present day. While in college in South Carolina the 1960s he help found an R & B group called the Enjays (all of the members were from New Jersey). As he grew stronger in relationship to God, the R & B gave way to singing Gospel music and in the early 1990s he founded an a capella group called Faith and wrote several of their songs. So when his nephew, Tony Jackson (Sounds by TJ), approached him with the notion of doing a Gospel radio program, the initial excitement quickly evolved into yet another commitment to do God’s work with a focus on today’s youth.
On a personal level, Dr. Jackson is a man who is not ashamed to live for Jesus Christ. An educator by profession since 1972, Dr. Jackson has served in a diverse spectrum of positions ranging from Adult Basic Education teacher in Trenton State Prison, to Middle School Principal. Today, he is semi-retired and operates Dr. Darrell A. Jackson, Education Consultant, a consulting firm he founded in January of 2010. The firm was established for the purpose of training principals, teachers, and parents in the broad and various aspects of public education that promote student achievement.
As a child Dr. Jackson lived with his parents and siblings in the public housing projects in New Brunswick known as Robeson village. Today he holds a bachelors degree from Trenton State College, a master’s degree from Montclair State College, and a doctorate in Educational leadership from Rutgers University, and has written two books. He gives God all the honor, glory, and praise for his successes in life.
